Breach
First up Breach. My husband and I were very excited to see this movie. We both had monitored the case of Robert Hanssen in the news and watched the Biography Channel Notorious on him. So we had a lot of facts going into the movie. Unfortunately, the movie only contained a fraction of them. The story is that of Eric O’Neill, the young FBI agent who helped “bring down the greatest spy in U.S. history”. However, even with this as a premise, we don’t find out much about Mr. Oneill’s life or how this case truly effected it. The movie briefly touches on issues that actually were pretty intense. Then you have to portrayal of the Hanssen family – it’s a very unstable shell of a picture painted for the viewer. There were so many things to touch on that go unmentioned. Things that explain how Mr. Hanssen became who he is aren’t even an afterthought.
Basically if you have never heard anything about the case, this movie might be mildly enjoyable, however, if you’ve followed the case or live in the Washington, D.C. area, you’re better off picking up a copy of the Notorious dvd and watching it.
Lucky Number Slevin
Lucky Number Slevin Ok, I know what you’re thinking – Josh Hartnett is not really a good actor. That’s exactly how I feel, yet he’s actually pretty good in this movie. It starts out a little gruesome for my taste but if you can get past the first 15 – 20 minutes of the film it gets interesting. I enjoyed that I didn’t know what was going to happen and that no one really seemed to over act their part. Normally Bruce Willis has a tendency to cheese/ham it up for the camera, but here he did ok. I really don’t want to comment too much on the plot because it may ruin the ending, however, if you’ve got some time this is definitely one to check out. The plot goes to some interesting places and then wraps everything up neatly at the end.
