Sherri Shepherd & Whoopi Goldberg are in?!

July 28, 2007

Ok, according to TMZ who quotes the LA Times, Whoopi and Sherri will be offered the hosting gigs at The View! Sweet – it will be great to get the view from a demographic that’s not all Caucasian. Especially since Sherri and Whoopi seem so open and about their lives.

Now the View really will be diverse! Woo hooo!!!! Congrats ladies!

Sigh… “Cavemen” Sitcom Might Be Racist!

July 26, 2007

So, my favorite entertainment reporter Lisa DeMoraes of the Washington Post is at the Summer TV Press Tour. Today ABC is up and after a lot of drama and uncooperativeness (is that a word?) we finally get to the pilot for the new sitcom Cavemen. Where do I begin? Ugh… I watched the clip ABC provides and I’m offended. Apparently the “Reporters Who Cover Television” are also a little offended. Lisa reports:

Eight white men onstage told TV critics, columnists and reporters that the new sitcom “Cavemen” — in which the cavemen are depicted as great dancers, naturally athletic and able to drive blondes crazy with their sexual prowess — is not, as one critic suggested, “the series about black folk that ABC was too scared to make.”

The execs then say:

“We’re aware that the pilot seems to lean a little bit more in that direction,” Gordon said. “But in the episodes that we’re sort of coming up with now, we never saw them as, again, a stand-in for one group.”

Hmmm, when I watched the clip there were fairly light-skinned (almost white looking) cavemen, saying things like don’t use Cro-mag, and the other caveman saying it’s ok if we use it. Then they go on to reference macaroni and cheese and start singing an altered version of Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Again I say UGH! Is this the new blackface? Are black people to be likened to cavemen for a whole season? Why not just throw in a bucket of chicken and some watermelon to round out the stereotype? Oh wait, then you’d also have to add the criminal element and some baby mamas!

ABC, ABC, ABC! How dumb can you be?  Check out the clip for yourself and let me know what you think!

I Love the Singing Bee

July 23, 2007

Say what you want, but the Singing Bee on NBC is GREAT! I’m not sure what I like best – that it’s only a half hour, or that it’s just good, wholesome entertainment. Nothing too fancy, nothing too complicated, if you know the lyrics you move on and if you don’t you sit down. Joey Fatone is perfect for this show. It’s fluff at its best. Plus, you’ve got to hand it to the house band – they sound great. So much better than the band from Dancing with the Stars. Add to that a bunch of songs that I love and thought I knew the words to and I’m hooked.

Of course, a lot of people don’t care for the show. Tom Shales of the Washington Post slams the show. I say, poo poo on Mr. Shales. Sometimes, especially in the summer and in such stressful times in our country, we just need a little light entertainment. This show doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. And lets not forget the little “Bee-ettes.” I like their little bumble bee costumes. Plus, they’re not being exploited like many other girls (can you say Deal or No Deal). These girls just shake their little bee outfits and the cameras cut back and forth so quickly, you don’t have time to be offended. Anyway if you’ve got some time, check out the Singing Bee – it’s amusing!

That’s Why They Call You Elisa-bitch!

July 19, 2007

On yesterday’s View there were lots of heated discussions. The one that stands out though was with Joy and Elisabeth. Joy mentions how President Bush has just vetoed a bill to offer health care to children. Elisabeth asks what else was in the bill blah, blah, blah and Joy says here, read it. Then Elisabeth says she will and goes into the fact that a lot of times other things are in bills that no one pays attention to and so on. So the capper comes when she says in the snootiest of ways, “where are these kids parents? Are the working…” Ok Elisabeth, true the parents should be around, but come on. What a B! Regardless of the state of the parent, our nation’s children need health care. So maybePerez Hilton was right to nickname you Elisabitch!

Man Can those ‘View’ Chicks be Annoying!

July 17, 2007

Ok, I know I watch The View, but it’s purely to comment and report on entertainment goings on. Some days however, like today those hens sitting around clucking gets really annoying. I mean first you have Elisabeth who’s going on and on and on about something and then getting cut off because everyone is louder than her. Poor Elisabeth – Barbara has to interrupt everyone so she can speak. Then you have the fact that they yak for 30 minutes or so for “Hot Topics” and then rush through the guests they have on. I’m all for you spending 30 minutes on current events, but if you’re going to do that, please book fewer guests. It’s SO rude to rush them off the couch when they just sat down a minute ago. Elisabeth is the wrapper upper these days and she’s way to transparent about it. I just don’t like it!

Sherri Shepherd’s Auditioning Continues

July 17, 2007

So Sherri was back as guest co-host on the View yesterday. Yippee! I really enjoy watching her and it’s nice to see her settling in as a co-host. If Barbara Walters has any sense, she will hire Sherri. She’s kind of the voice of normal people. I enjoy the fact that Sherri is very open, honest, and down to earth with her statements. I don’t necessarily agree with what she’s saying all the time, but I believe she’s being truthful without being reserved. Barbara and Elisabeth always seem so practiced and rehearsed with their comments. Joy on the other hand is less practiced, but always trying to get a joke in.

Yesterday’s discussion centered around Rev. Al Sharpton calling out TMZ for calling Beyonce’s BET Awards performance outfit “Roboho.” Hey I saw the awards and that get up was NOT cute! Anyway, Sherri said she thought Rev. Sharpton was being silly. And he is, I mean come on. Don’t you have bigger issues to fight than that?
Check out TMZ’s video clip to see Sherri in action. Oh yeah and bonus points go to Elisabeth for pointing out that Al doesn’t seem to take issue with the “Poshtitute” phrasing for Posh Spice!

Sprint – Biting the Hand that Feeds it?

July 17, 2007

Last week on Good Morning America they did a story on Sprints new strategy of:

disconnecting more than 1,000 subscribers for calling its customer service lines too often and making what the company called unreasonable requests.

They went on to say that:
“These customers were calling to a degree that we felt was excessive,” said Sprint spokeswoman Roni Singleton, adding the company needed to cull its customer base to improve services.

“In some cases they were calling customer care hundreds of times a month for a period of six to 12 months on the same issues even after we felt those issues had been resolved,” she said.

Call me crazy, but if these people continue to call, since that’s why customer service is there, maybe you haven’t solved their problem. Or maybe it’s a problem very similar to the first problem. Wasn’t it generous though for Sprint to waive final balances and give customers 30 days to transfer numbers? Hmm, that’s all fine and dandy, but what about the cost of the phone? It’s not like phones are cheap these days and you can’t use the phone with another carrier. Maybe some of the cancelled Sprint customers will speak out so we can hear their side of the story.

Bridezillas – Who Knew it was so Popular?

July 13, 2007

Since I’ve started this blog, the most hits I’ve had, pertain to Anita, the Bridezilla who was left at the altar!  I never thought that many people would look for that information.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love that people come here to look at that!  It even makes me want to try and find more information out about the bride.  Is she still married?  Did her daughter move out?  Does she still speak to the rest of the family?  Hmm…  inquiring minds want to know!

More Disturbing Signs of Our Society

July 13, 2007

I wasn’t going to post this article because it’s depressing. I try to keep this blog a little lighter, but in this instance I’ll let you decide whether or not to read on.

The story is that of an immigrant, single mom and her pre-teen son. They live in the projects in Florida and were severely beaten and traumatized. The mother was beaten and gang-raped while her son was beaten in another room. Then they were brought back together for the mother to “perform” the unthinkable on her own son. Only two of the suspects have been caught.

There’s not a lot I can say about this story except that I don’t know how or why people think like this. Not only is it a violation of the worst kind, it’s repetitive and all around sick. Did none of these boys think of their own mother, sister, grandmother, niece, girlfriend when they were allegedly performing these acts? What kind of people do this?

My prayers are with the family that was victimized in this horrific way.

The View is Back and Auditions Continue

July 9, 2007

Today the ladies of the View were back. Sitting in for Barbara Walters was Whoopi Goldberg and the lovely Sherri Shephard was back as the 4th co-host. So I initially didn’t like the idea of Whoopi being one of the hosts, but today everyone seemed well rested and I kind of enjoyed Whoopi’s take on things. She has a little trouble getting her opinion out succinctly sometimes and of course there’s the breaks that she kept butchering but I liked it. Sherri was her normal funny self. She seems to be settling into the show nicely. I’m just happen to see the view coming out of minority mouths for a change.

Notes on today’s show: Joy has switched seats – she’s now second chair. She was looking great today. Everyone kept referring the Sherri Shephard’s “ex-husband”. I thought they were back together. Did I miss something?
